Catch a flick

There are large numbers of places to go in Buffalo to catch a movie; it's all a matter of where you happen to be living or staying. For now, I'll just put down here some of the more popular cinemas near my house and school, to start us off.

Maple Ridge 8 (AMC). This is a large cinema right around the corner from UB North Campus, more specifically at the corner of Sweet Home and Maple Rd. They accept student I.D.'s for discounts here, which is good if you're a student. About half of the most popular, recent movies that are out playing can be found here, and there is an extensive choice of foodstuffs to choose from, and even a few videogames.

University 8 (General Cinema). This is another very large movie house, and here can be found the other half of the recent popular movies which are currently playing. It's a little ways down the road from the Maple Ridge cinemas, travelling eastward on Maple Rd. It has many more video games than the Maple Ridge facility, and about the same selection of food. 'Nice interior atmosphere.

Amherst. This is a small three-screen place that plays "alternative" films and "cult" classics. Oh yeah, every weekend, they have a performance of The Rocky Horror Picture Show here, though as of yet I've never attended one. It's in the University Plaza across from UB South Campus on Main St. The admission is something like $1.50 if I recall correctly.

Walden Galleria 8. This is a big General Cinema installation in the Walden Galleria Mall. It has basically the same stuff that the aforementioned University 8 cinema has, except it's in the Buffalo area's largest shopping mall.

Super Saver 8. This place is somewhere on Elmwood Ave, perhaps near the Villiage of Kenmore; I forget precisely where. Here they play films that came out some time ago, and are no longer playing at the cutting-edge mainstream cinemas. Consequently the prices are pretty cheap too; $1.50 I think. I don't think I've actually ever viewed a movie here though, but I'll write more about it as soon as I do.

There are other cinemas scattered all over the place, including North Park on Hertel Ave., Holiday 8 on Union Rd., and Eastern Hills on Transit Rd., but I'll write some more on these at a date in the future, when I learn/remember more about them.
