Food for mind, eyes, and ears
Here is some stuff regarding what kinds of media I enjoy taking in
during my spare time. The lists may not be complete since there are most
likely elements I may have forgotten or which just for some reason didn't
come to mind when I created this document. I'll add more details in the
near future.
Back to front page
Here is a list of some of my favorite movies. I particularly enjoy this
medium because it involves both sight and sound, and allows for a degree of
expression which one can't find in mere text or music. Most of these I own
in my personal collection if not all of them; and if it's here and I don't
have it, I intend to get a copy of it as soon as possible.
I was going to list them in a precisely numbered order, but instead,
here they are unnumbered, though generally the ones closer to the top of
the list I tend to favor more.
More Media
Well here are some of my favorite actors and actresses, and not
surprisingly, they tend to be actors from my favorite films or television
shows. They may also be striking or charismatic players from other sources
I've viewed. Of course some are more important to me than others, and the
ones I tend to favor most are those who played the most roles I enjoyed or
the most impressive/admirable roles. Here they are in rather alphabetical
order.
More Media
Here are some of my favorite bands/musicians. Again, generally the
top-most ones I favor more. (As one can probably tell, my musical tastes
have evolved noticable over the years. I didn't get into the regular
listening of music per se until relatively late in my life, and then I
flirted and experimented with various music, gradually settling into what I
now enjoy...) I find that listening to the right kind of music can bring a
great deal of added meaning and inspiration/motivation to one's life. I'm
always searching through songs, scanning lyrics for extra hidden meaning,
desiring to bring the most impressive songs into my repertoire.

Here are many of my favorite songs. They're generally listed starting
with those which are most favorite, though after the first several,
distinctions begin to blur, and it's actually hard to tell which songs I
like more than others; the first three definitely have special meaning for me
nowadays though. Again, with most things in this document, and within this
page, there are most likely items which I've left out, so don't think this
is the whole story! Followed by each song is it's performer in
parentheses.

It's said that one can usually tell something about a person by kind of
magazines (and newspapers) that person enjoys reading (as well as anything
else he/she is into), so I thought it'd be a good idea to throw in names of
magazines I've enjoyed reading; closer to the top of the list generally
means it's more favorite.

Recently I've begun doing some carefully-focused TV-watching again, as
I've realized there's much to be gained from small amounts of wisely-chosen
television viewing; perhaps no TV is just as bad as too much TV. ('Same
goes with movies too.) So anyway, here is a list of some TV networks which
I've found to be especially interesting and entertaining.
These are some of my favorite television shows that I've watched
throughout my life. Sadly, most of them aren't on the air anymore, but
that's okay since I seldom have time to watch TV nowadays anyway. Or
rather, I very carefully select what I view, and even videotape what's
important to me if I'm away. Most of these are from my childhood, though
some are from the present. I've boldfaced some which are especially
relevant to my current or recent viewing and which provide me with great
value.

I've always loved playing video games, for as long as I can remember,
since I was tall enough to play the stand-up arcade games, and when the
Atari 2600 came out. I don't have as much time to play them nowadays, but
here are some of my favorite video games, spanning all of my gaming
history, generally listed with my most favorite ones near the top. The
types of games I generally tend to prefer are adventure/role-playing
(e.g. Gauntlet II), games of coordination and reflexes (e.g. OutRun;
Championship Sprint; Power Drive (the game of monster trucks!)), games
involving blowing stuff up from a 1st-person perspective (e.g. Area 51;
Operation Thunderbolt), and all kinds of fighting games (e.g. The Main
Event, Crime Fighters, TMNT, Narc, etc., and of course MK and SF).
I still think my favorite of all time though was Cobra Command, which
was a great "laser disk" game (combining laser disk graphics with computer
software); there wasn't much thought involved in playing this game -- just
mostly remembering the sequence of events in each mission, and accurately
firing the appropriate weapons in a timely manner while moving the control
stick as directed by the co-pilot's voice. Playing this game actually felt
like being a character in a dramatic animated war movie though, and I guess
this is what made it great.
[This list is for original arcade games; home games are not included
here.] If anyone wants to mention other older ("classic",
or mid/late 80's) arcade games that I didn't put on this list, feel free to
do so; there are probably some I forgot! [Though I enjoyed the older
"classic" games, my childhood favorite were really more the ones that were
spawned shortly after that and have more play complexity, as one can tell
from the examples in my list.]
- Cobra Command
- Gauntlet II; Gauntlet
- Star Wars
- OutRun
- The Main Event
- Power Drive
- Punch Out
- Crime Fighters
- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
- The Ninja Warriors
- Xenophobe

- Street Fighter II: Champion Edition; SF II; SF

I know that with the advent of high-tech entertainment nowadays, that
traditional board games are kind of passe, but still un-automated oldies
can indeed be goodies, and I suppose I could even think of a few good ol'
games which I've enjoyed playing throughout the years and recently...
